Manitoba Council for Exceptional Children - Membership
CEC is the leading voice for special and gifted education.
Through the vision and dedication of its nearly 45,000
members, CEC sets the standard for high quality education for children
and youth with exceptionalities. The Council ensures the needs of
children and youth with exceptionalities are met in educational
legislation, establishes professional standards for the field, and
develops initiatives to improve special education practice. And,
CEC is known as THE source for information, resources, and professional
development for special educators. Join CEC and become affiliated

CEC offers different types of membership as outlined below:
Premier membership is for persons who want to
contribute additional support to the Council's activities. Premier
members receive all Professional membership benefits (see below),
plus:

the CEC Annual Convention & Expo

Professional membership is a full annual CEC membership
for special education professionals that includes:
- TEACHING Exceptional Children (TEC), CEC's award-winning practice-based
journal (6 issues per year)
- TEC Plus, the online companion to TEACHING Exceptional Children
- Exceptional Children, CEC's highly respected research journal
(4 issues per year)
- CEC Today, the member newsletter (4 issues per year, online)
- CEC SmartBrief, provides concise reports on special education
trends and developments via e-mail

Joint membership provides all the benefits of
Professional membership for two persons. The pair of members receive
one set of CEC professional publications (TEACHING Exceptional Children
and Exceptional Children), but maintain two separate "files"
so that each can join different divisions.
Retired membership provides all the benefits of
Professional membership at a special rate. To qualify, you must
have officially retired from your employing agency, been a member
of CEC for at least ten (10) years prior to retirement, and have
not accepted another full-time position. (CEC members holding a
Retired membership as of December 31, 2005 are exempt from the 10-year
membership requirement.)

Student membership provides all the benefits of
Professional membership at a special student rate. Student members
must be a full-time student at an accredited college or university;
or a part-time student who is not engaged in full-time employment
as a certified professional in the field of education. New
students can continue to pay the student membership rate for the

Associate membership is for parents and family
members who do not work full-time in the field of education, paraprofessionals,
and the general public. Associate members have on-line access to
the CEC journals, but do not receive hard copy by mail.
